This is more of a 60's than a 70's album really, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," the album, was released in very early 1970. There are a lot of classic staples on this, and a few non-singles such as "America." I don't listen to this duo much, and never thought that the regular records, outside of 'Bookends," were particularly consistently good throughout- all had good stuff and bad or dull material too, and some of it I'm sick of nowadays, but most of this is worthy and "The Boxer" is particularly brilliant and holds up well.

TopI generally like music that's quite upbeat and ballsy but occasionnaly I'll make an exception. S & G are one of those. The tunes here have class stamped all over them. If the hairs on the back of your neck dont stand up when they sing 'sail on silver girl..' from 'Bridge..' then you're probably dead.

TopWe enjoy this album. It has a lot of their more popular songs on it. Bridge over Troulbled water. is a classic. I like the way they sing. they just sing their songs simply. they do not go for vocal gymnastics. I like some of the songs better than others.A good album.

TopFor a compilation release, Simon & Garfunkel's "Greatest Hits" is one of the classics that will please most any music fan. The track list covers all the hits from the duo's heyday from 1964 to 1972 (ie "Mrs. Robinson," "For Emily," "Whenever I May Find Her," "The Boxer," "The 59th Street Bridge Song," "The Sound Of Silence," "I Am A Rock," "Scarborough Fair/Canticle," "Homeward Bound," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "America," "Kathy's Song," "El Condor Pasa," "Bookends Theme," and "Cecilia"). Unfortunately, however, some of the tracks are live versions. Moreover, as "Greatest Hits" was released in 1972, there are now better options for most casual fans, for instance "Best Of Simon & Garfunkel" (1999) which drops "Kathy's Song" but adds seven additional tracks (including "A Hazy Shade Of Winter"). Nevertheless, in my opinion, no "greatest hits" package should be on this list as these releases do not represent the concept of a full-length effort.

TopI grew up (in the 90s mind you) with this tape. I think everyone loves S&G and I can see no reason why not. As they went their separate ways, they each made their own mistakes. But these early hits tell of innocence, friendship, love--I hope that doesn't sound too mawkish, because it's entirely true. Minus a star only because they insisted on including the live version of "For Emily (Whenever I May Find Her)" rather than the studio version that I find to be much more moving. "...we walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight..." Mmmmh.

TopNo, six stars. Seven, eight, NINE! TEN!!!! The best of S&G, one of my favorite bands of all time (just under Queen and the Stones) deserves a special rating, as in ten stars for ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! However, Simon and Garfunkel forgot a lot of stuff on this CD. Everything they ever did should be on that CD, because there songs were some of the best in the industry! GO S&G!!!

TopThis album is wonderful. The whole way through. It has a whole range from ballads to poppy songs. It showcases the singers' ability and their feelings.

TopMy daughter who is in college and I listen to it together. Sure brings back memories. She bought the CD. We both love it.

TopGood memories with my dad. Definite classics. Good tunes. The lyrics are poetic and very easy to remember, and give way to several modes of interpertation. The songs are fairly easy to learn on guitar too, so it helps when one wants to have sing a longs with friends.

TopA classic album that catalogues all the best of the duo's greatest hits. Great for listening in an expressive mood. Also great to listen to when stoned. One of the top five classic albums from the Sixties.

TopVery relaxing album. I like most of the songs on the album, but I get tired of it pretty easily. Good to hear once in awhile.

TopSimon and Garfunkel's unique music is like bittersweet chocolate. Rich, their harmonies are as haunting as their lyrics. Very sing in the shouwer songs with unforgettable tunes is their mark. Some songs make me happy, some make me sad, but none make me annoyed. Very gentle but vigilant, like a beech tree.

TopThe album is good-fact is, I have the whole set but you have to like soft folk music to enjoy. A lot of people like a harder edge. The music can be depressing or help in a depressive mood but there is no doubt it is musically phenomenal!

TopI love all that old style music as well as Limp Bizkit, Korn, etc... but still love all types of music. I like the harmonies they use and they wrote so many classic songs.

TopI love the oldies. Simon and Garfunkel were one of the first "old" people that I loved to listen to. Their harmonizing is cool and they have to get back together.

TopMost of the songs on this album are very soothing. I like them all, they have beautiful melodies and intriguing lyrics. For instance, the lyrics to "The Sound of Silence" are very deep, especially considering the time period.

TopI actually prefer the albums (Bookends might be my favorite) to this collection of hits. Some are obviously great songs, but some of the lyrics (those of "I Am a Rock" for instance) are too cheeseball.
